The Department of Medical Education (DME) at Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Dehradun was established in the year 1998. Since then, the department has conducted many workshops and training programmes for faculty development, initially in collaboration with established Medical Education Centres and later actively on its own. The resource faculty of this department is engaged in faculty development activities, curricular innovations, and educational research.

Faculty development is a planned program to improve an individual’s knowledge and skills in teaching. Educational research and educational administration and to prepare the institution and faculty members for their various roles.

The Revised basic Course education workshop is a three day training program enabling faculty from Medical colleges to function as more effective teachers. This workshop includes teaching, learning, assessment and personal development themes designed specifically for professional teachers.

The National Medical Commission approved Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Dehradun as an NMC Regional Centre in Medical education Technologies (MET), vide letter no. NMC/MCI- Academics/2014/62713, dated 06/03/2014.

On 2nd August 2014, the NMC Regional Centre in MET, HIMS, Dehradun was launched by Dr. Ved Prakash Mishra, Chairman, Academic Committee, NMC. Thirteen Medical Colleges have been allocated to the care of this Centre for training in MET at the time of recognition.

Presently 18 Medical Colleges are allocated to this centre for training of their respective Medical Faculty in medical education technologies. This NMC Regional Centre regularly conducts the Revised Basic Course in Medical Education Technologies along AETCOM module workshop & Curriculum Implementation Support Programme (CISP) on the developed by Academic Cell of NMC.
